Founder Pitches “Uber for Chai”; Investor Says His Kaka Has Run One Since 1987
The existing business has no app, no pitch deck and no losses.
AHMEDABAD: A startup founder’s pitch for an “AI-powered, hyperlocal chai delivery platform” ended early this week, after an investor pointed out that his kaka has been doing exactly that from a lari at the crossroads since 1987.
“He takes orders by eye contact,” the investor explained. “Delivery is a boy with a wire carrier. Customer retention is one hundred percent, because he remembers how much sugar you take.”
The founder argued that his version would scale. He was told that kaka already serves four office buildings, a bank and a police chowky, and has never once “pivoted”.
Asked about his burn rate, kaka said only that the milk must not be allowed to burn, and went back to work.
The founder is now exploring a subscription model for sev.
